The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 370 meet on the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm at the Post Home.
Never served in the military but proud of those in your family who did? Now you can show your support by becoming members of the Sons of The American Legion Squadron 370 the only such Squadron in the tri-county area of Llano, Burnet and Mason.
All male descendants, including adopted sons and step-sons, of those who have served honorably in the United States Armed Forces during war time whether living or dead are eligible to join. Dues are only $10 annually. Meetings are held every second Thursday of the month at 5:30 pm at the American Legion Post Home at 200 Legion Street in Llano (just in from Dollar General). Just show up and we’ll take it from there.
At their first organizational meeting, the Squadron adopted a Constitution and Bylaws and appointed its first provisional officers and laid out their future plans. Membership was high on the list with a need for members with leadership experience working with younger adults, as an effort will be made to bring in as many high school and Jr. high school-age students as possible.
Early plans include developing a Color Guard equipped with ceremonial rifles and flags to serve various civic functions. In addition, Squadron members have always assisted Legionnaires with Legion Family programs as well as their own, as each S.A.L. squadron is permitted flexibility in planning programs and activities to meet its own needs.
Their activities are often national in scope. For example, the Sons of The American Legion is one of many organizations that sponsors and supports the Citizens Flag Alliance, a coalition formed to secure flag protection legislation through an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. S.A.L. volunteers work to establish local networks by having petitions available and handing out informational material. They alert their communities to the importance of respect for the flag and they encourage flag education programs in schools and other local organizations.
Harvey H. Klee, Chairman of the Post S.A.L. Committee and Adviser is available to present and explain the program to civic organizations and others who may be interested by contacting him at 326-379-2004 or by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org .
